Around the same time, Hitchcock signed her to a personal contract and cast her opposite Henry Fonda in the 1956 thriller The Wrong Man.Their professional partnership eventually ran into difficulties when she became pregnant, forcing her to withdraw from the lead role in Vertigo, which was ultimately played by Kim Novak.<\/p>\n

Despite the setback, she later secured a memorable role in Hitchcock\u2019s landmark thriller Psycho, portraying Lila Crane \u2014 the determined sister of murder victim Marion Crane, played by Janet Leigh \u2014 opposite Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates.<\/p>\n

Born Vera June Ralston on August 23, 1930, in Boise City, Oklahoma, she spent much of her childhood in Pratt, Kansas, before moving to California to pursue acting. Early in the 1950s she began landing small roles in film and television, quickly drawing attention thanks to her classic blonde beauty and composed screen presence.<\/p>\n

Miles went on to appear in numerous Westerns, crime stories and adventure films, including The Searchers, The Wrong Man and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. On television, she made recurring appearances in well-known series such as Gunsmoke, Route 66 and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, proving her versatility across multiple genres.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career she worked alongside major Hollywood stars including Wayne, Fonda and Lee Marvin, and collaborated with celebrated directors like Ford, Hitchcock and William Wyler.<\/p>\n
