Noonan rose to prominence in the 1980s with his unforgettable portrayal of serial killer Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter, a performance still regarded as one of the most chilling in thriller cinema. He also became a fan favorite in the fantasy-horror genre as Frankenstein’s Monster in The Monster Squad, later appearing as the villain Cain in RoboCop 2 and as The Ripper in Last Action Hero.
Throughout the 1990s, he strengthened his reputation as a powerful character actor, notably playing the hacker Kelso in the crime classic Heat alongside an all-star cast. In later years, he earned critical praise for his emotional role as Sammy Barnathan in Synecdoche, New York and for his mysterious performance as Mr. Ulman in The House of the Devil.
