Pat Finn grew up in Evanston, Illinois, and after graduating from Marquette University in 1987, he began a career in comedy alongside his close friend Chris Farley, performing with the legendary Second City improv troupe in Chicago early in his career.
Finn built a long and respected television career, with memorable roles across decades of popular shows. He is perhaps best known for playing Bill Norwood on The Middle from 2011 to 2018, but his credits also include appearances on other classic sitcoms and comedies such as Seinfeld, Friends, Murphy Brown, and The George Wendt Show.
According to his family and representatives, Finn had been privately battling bladder cancer, first diagnosed in 2022. After a period of remission, the cancer later returned and metastasized. He fought the illness with strength and dignity before ultimately losing his battle.
Colleagues and friends have taken to social media to share tributes and memories of Finnโs warm personality and sharp comic timing. Comedian Jeff Dye, among others, remembered him as โone of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humor.โ
Pat Finn is survived by his wife Donna, whom he married in 1990, and their three children, as well as other family and countless fans around the world who appreciated his work on screen.
