Born in Cisco, Texas in 1938, Crofts developed an early passion for music, learning multiple instruments including drums, guitar, and mandolin. His musical journey began in local bands before he eventually met his longtime partner Jim Seals, with whom he would go on to create one of the most successful duos in soft rock history.

Together, Seals & Crofts rose to fame in the early 1970s, blending soft rock, folk, and spiritual influences into a unique sound. Their breakthrough came with the album Summer Breeze, which produced hit singles like โ€œSummer Breezeโ€ and helped them reach millions of listeners worldwide.
