His political career began at the local level, serving in the California State Assembly and State Senate before being elected to Congress in 2013. During his tenure, he was recognized for his conservative stances and efforts to support agriculture and rural development.
While the official cause of death has not been disclosed, colleagues and associates described LaMalfa as a dedicated lawmaker and a beloved family man. A special election will be held to fill his vacant congressional seat.
