Reagan was a prominent conservative political commentator, author, and nationally syndicated radio talk show host, known for The Michael Reagan Show and his frequent contributions to conservative media over several decades. He also served as a public speaker and was closely involved with the Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library, helping preserve his father’s legacy.
In a statement posted on social media, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute described him as “a steadfast guardian of his father’s legacy,” noting that his life was “shaped by conviction, purpose, and an abiding devotion to President Reagan’s ideals.” The foundation added that his presence and commitment will be deeply missed by many who admired his work.
Born in 1945 as John Charles Flaugher, Reagan was adopted just hours after his birth by Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman. Before establishing himself in conservative media, he pursued small acting roles in television and authored several books, including two autobiographies that detailed his personal journey and reflections on adoption and family.
Alongside his media career, Reagan also engaged in philanthropy, supporting causes such as juvenile diabetes research, foster care, and Alzheimer’s advocacy, the latter partly inspired by his father’s long battle with the illness before his own death in 2004.
Michael Reagan is survived by his wife, Colleen Stearns, their two children, Cameron and Ashley, and his extended family. Relatives and supporters around the U.S. have begun sharing tributes to his life and work, remembering him as a devoted family man and a steadfast voice in conservative commentary.
