Football legend Terry Yorath has passed away at the age of 75 after a brief illness. He was one of the most prominent figures in British football, best known as a midfielder for Leeds United and as the captain of the Wales national team, for which he earned 59 caps and served as captain in 42 of them. Yorath also had a rich career beyond his playing days. He played for clubs including Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Bradford City before moving into management. As a coach, he led the Wales national team from 1988 to 1993, coming very close to qualifying for the 1994 World Cup — a dream that was heartbreakingly halted in a decisive match against Romania.
Beyond football, Terry Yorath will be remembered for his courage off the pitch. During his time at Bradford City as a player and manager, he helped save fans during the tragic Valley Parade stadium fire in 1985, an event that claimed 56 lives and injured over 250.
His family released a heartfelt statement following his passing, describing him as a beloved football figure but above all a calm, loving, and gentle father. He leaves behind three children — Gabby, Louise, and Jordan — and is spiritually reunited with his late son Daniel, who passed away at the age of 15 from a heart condition.
